Ex-Swechchhasebak League leader shot dead in Jhenaidah


JHENAIDAH, Nov 24 (BSS): A former leader of Bangladesh Awami Swechchhasebak League was reportedly shot to death by a group of miscreants at Shura village under Harinakundu upazila of the district on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Kamruzzaman Shamim (45), son of Golam Rasul Nantu, resident of the Shura village. He was a former vice-president of Harinakundu upazila unit of Swechasebak League, is an associate body and the volunteer wing of the Bangladesh Awami League.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Harinakundu Police Station Mahbubur Rahman said that a group of miscreants shot him while he was sitting on the bank of a canal adjacent to his home at around 8:30pm, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued Shamim and rushed him to Harinakundu Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, OC said.
Later, the body was sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police are trying to arrest those involved in the murder, the OC added.
