Ex-Sylhet MP Sharif Uddin Khosru dies

SYLHET, July11: Former MP for Sylhet-6 (Golapganj-Bianibazar) constituency Sharaf Uddin Khasru passed away at his residence around 11:00 pm on Friday.

He was later buried following his janaza prayers held at the Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Mosque after Zohr prayers on Saturday.

Khasru was elected as a lawmaker from Sylhet-6 twice. He was first elected from the constituency as a candidate of the Jatiya Party. Later, he joined the BNP in 1995 and won the February 15, 1996 parliamentary election from the same constituency as a BNP candidate.

He returned to the Jatiya Party in late 1999. In the 2008 general election, he contested from Sylhet-6 under the banner of the United Front (PDP) but was defeated.
