Execution of all verdicts against war criminals demanded

CHITTAGONG, Dec 17: People from all walks of life observed the country's 44th Victory Day with solemnity and reverence as they thronged the Central Shahid Minar at Nandankanon in the city to pay rich tributes to the martyrs of the War of Liberation of 1971.
Hundreds of freedom fighters under the banners of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Chittagong City unit Command and Chittagong District Unit Command paid tributes to the martyrs at the Central Shahid Minar at Nandankanan in the city in the early hours of the day.
State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Zabed MP, City Mayor M Manjur Alam, Divisional Commissioner M Abdulla, Deputy Commissioner Mesbah Uddin, Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mondal and Police Super AKM Hafiz Akhtar placed floral wreaths at the altar of the Shahid Minar at the same time.
Awami League Chittagong City Unit president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and president of the BNP Chittagong City unit Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury accompanied by the party workers and leaders also placed floral wreaths at the Shahid Minar on behalf of their parties.
On Wednesday morning the freedom fighters under the banner of Chittagong District Unit Command of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad in cooperation with the district administration brought out a colourful procession from Chittagong Circuit House.
Several hundred freedom fighters joined the procession that paraded the city streets and joined the freedom fighters' rally at the Chittagong Shilpakola Academy. Muktijoddha Sangsad Chittagong District Unit leaders along with other senior members of the freedom fighters addressed the rally.
Meanwhile, CHITTAGONG, Dec 17: Ruling party lawmaker MA Latif has said the nation would be free of infamy through execution of verdicts of the trials of those who had committed crimes against humanity by killing innocent people, rape, arson and looting during the Liberation War in 1971.
Latif MP was addressing a mass gathering of the party, workers, labourers, youths and students at the Bijoy Utsab rally organised by party leaders on the occasion of the 43rd Victory Day Anniversary at the intersection of Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) on December 16.
