Extortion case filed against ex-MP, 3 others

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, June 14 (UNB): An extortion case was filed against former BNP lawmaker and general secretary of BNP district unit Harun-ur-Rashid and three others here Wednesday night.
Kazi M Mozammel Haq of Horma village in Sadar Upazila filed the case against the former lawmaker, his wife Syeda Ashifa Ashrafi Papiya, Jubo Dal leaders -- Ejabul Huq and Asaduzzaman -- with Sadar police station.
According to the case, when plaintiff Mozammel was working as marriage registrar of Char Anupnagar and Devinagar Union Parishad (UP), the accused called him to the house of the lawmaker and demanded Tk 0.10 million on June 28, 2002.
He said they had threatened him to cancel his licence of marriage registrar if he failed to pay the money.
As Mozammel had paid only Tk 20,000, former lawmaker Harun cancelled his licence on December 17 in the same year.
Another report from Bhola adds: A case was filed against a BNP leader and Daulatkhan Municipality chairman on charge of taking bribe and cheating in the name of giving job.
Local BNP leader Abdullah Al Mamun filed the case against the Chairman Maksudur Rahman Sikder with the cognisance court Wednesday.
In his complaint, Mamun said that he had applied for a job on April 5, 2006 and Maksudur Rahman assuring him of securing the job, demanded Tk 0.15 million from him.
Later, Mamun gave Tk 0.14 million to the chairman in three phases but he did not get the job. Mamun said on June 10, 2007 when he demanded his money back the chairman denied taking any money from him.
