Under a revised agitation plan, opposition BNP will form human chains across the country tomorrow (Thursday) against government 'attempt to hide the real culprits' involved in staging the BDR Headquarters carnage and to demand a quick and fair investigation, reports UNB.
The party suspended their May 10 human-chain programme due to the death of eminent nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's husband, Dr MA Wazed Miah.
In the capital, the human chain will be formed across the city, from Gabtoli to Jatrabari, between 11:00 am and 12 noon.
The human chain demonstrations would be arranged as part of BNP's month-long countrywide programme, kicked off on May 5, demanding solutions to various national issues.
Addressing an opinion-exchange meeting with leaders of BNP and its front organisations ahead of the human-chain programme, party Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain Tuesday called for making all the programmes against the present 'failed' government a success.
"All will have to stand united against the conspiracy to jeopardise the country's independence and sovereignty through destroying BNP and nationalist force," he told the meeting.
Delwar hoped that the government would not obstruct the "peaceful" human-chain programme across the country.
The meeting, held at the party's central office with the secretary general in the chair, was attended, among others, by Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, MA Mannan, Amanullah Aman, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Shamsuzzman Dudu, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Shirin Sultana, Azizul Bari Helal, Humayun Islam Khan and Mir Sarfat Ali Sapu.
On April 23, opposition BNP announced protest rallies and human chains from May 5 to June 2 to press for smooth supply of electricity, gas and water, fair investigation into the BDR carnage, discarding hostile attitude against the opposition by the ruling party, improving the deteriorating law-and-order situation, restoring academic atmosphere in educational institutions and putting an end to politicisation.
The protest rallies and processions were brought out across the country, including metropolitan cities, district and upazila headquarters, on May 5 asking the government to immediately resolve the electricity, gas and water crises.
On May 11, BNP revised the rest of the programmes.
According to the new schedule the other programmes are: On May 19, BNP will hold rallies and take out processions throughout the country in protest against the 'deteriorating law and order and calling for putting an end to killings, robberies, snatching, grabbing, attack and filing false cases.'
