FBI to continue probe into BDR carnage: Moriarty

March 24, 2009 00:00:00

US Ambassador James F Moriarty said FBI would continue to work with its counterparts in Bangladesh to investigate the bloody BDR mayhem, as the US agency completed initial phase of its collaboration, reports UNB.
The assurance came when he met Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, Commerce Minister Lt Col (retd) Faruq Khan, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Adviser Tarique Siddique Sunday to provide an update on US assistance to Bangladesh's investigation into the BDR carnage.
Moriarty noted the massive scale of the investigation, and suggested it could take considerable time to complete the work.
The FBI team had shared its expertise in investigating complex cases with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) here, which has "primary responsibility for conducting this important investigation," said an US Embassy release Monday.
"With FBI's assistance, the Police have put in place the mechanisms necessary to conduct this complex investigation in a thorough and transparent manner," the release said.
"The ministers assured the ambassador that Bangladesh would allocate all the resources required to complete the investigation, taking into account the formidable task that lies ahead," it said.
FBI officials will return to Bangladesh at an appropriate time in the future to review the progress of the investigation and provide additional suggestions that might be appropriate, the release said.
