He condemns shooting of Keraniganj BNP leader

FE REPORT | January 24, 2026 12:00:00

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said a fear-free environment must be ensured to hold a free and fair national parliamentary election.

He made the comment in a statement sent to the media on Friday, following the shooting of Keraniganj BNP leader Hasan Molla.

In the statement, Mirza Fakhrul expressed deep concern over attacks on BNP leaders and activists. He strongly condemned and protested the incidents, saying that secret attacks are being carried out to disrupt the 13th national election.

Referring to democracy and people's voting rights, the BNP leader said people from all professions and political views must remain united to protect lives and property. He also demanded immediate improvement in the country's deteriorating law and order situation.

According to BNP, a group of criminals suddenly attacked Union BNP General Secretary Hasan Molla in front of the BNP office of Ward No. 9 under Hazratpur Union of Keraniganj Model Upazila on Thursday night (January 22). During the attack, he was seriously injured by gunshots. Several other BNP leaders and activists were also injured.

In another media statement on Friday, Mirza Fakhrul said after the fall of the Awami League autocratic regime, hidden criminals are again trying to create instability in the country by carrying out acts of violence. The shooting of BNP leaders and activists in Keraniganj is a part of that planned chaos.

He alleged that the attacks are being carried out to sabotage the 13th parliamentary election. He warned that if those involved are not identified and punished strictly as per the law, they may commit more serious acts of violence.

Mirza Fakhrul wished a speedy recovery to Hasan Molla and other injured leaders and activists, and also expressed deep sympathy for their families.
