FFs, families won't have to pay vehicle fitness fees

FE REPORT | January 17, 2020 12:00:00

Freedom fighters (FFs), their family members and wounded freedom fighters as well will now enjoy exemption from paying annual fitness fees for their vehicles.

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in a gazette notification issued on Monday exempted the above-mentioned people from paying fitness fees for their vehicles.

"No fitness fees shall be charged for a motor vehicle owned and exclusively used by a wounded freedom fighter, widow of a martyred (Shaheed) freedom fighter, awarded freedom fighter, widow of a deceased or awarded deceased freedom fighter," said the gazette notification.

It also said the certificate of a freedom fighter will have to be submitted to the inspector of motor vehicles for issuance or renewal of the fitness certificate of a vehicle.

The fees exemption under sub-regulation (1) will no more be effective once the motor vehicle is transferred to any other person and the transfer shall take effect only after the payment of fees as applicable to each case.
