The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will soon declare the final leg of its one-point movement to unseat the government for a free, fair and inclusive election under a neutral caretaker set-up.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this at a youth rally on Monday, demanding the government's resignation and allowing ailing chairperson Khaleda Zia to go abroad for treatment.
Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, an associate body of youths of BNP, hosted the rally in front of the party's Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital.
"We (BNP) will finalise our one-point movement soon. This government is unconstitutional. They have violated the constitution. We (BNP) will resort to a strong movement soon to topple the government."
Mr Fakhrul accused the government of clinging to power by using brute force.
He requested the police personnel not to carry out any illegitimate order of the government.
Citing Begum Zia's illness as serious, he said the government was yet to allow her to go abroad for receiving advanced medical treatment.
He warned that if anything untoward happened to the party chairperson, the government must be accountable to the people.
About wholesale politicisation of democratic institutions, Mr Fakhrul said youth employment without bribe was impossible these days.
BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas said the youth of the country were now united to oust the government.
"Begum Zia is being deprived of her proper treatment abroad, whereas many pro-government politicians, including Maya Chowdhury and Haji Selim, got scope for treatment abroad despite cases against them."
Standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said the government was plotting to stage another farcical election like the one held in 2018.
Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku presided over the rally where thousands of Jubo Dal leaders and activists from different parts of Dhaka city and several districts were present.
