The Election Commission (EC) Wednesday clearly stated that the political parties must finalise and furnish to the returning officers the list of their candidates for the parliament elections within today (Thursday), although most politicos couldn't yet finish seat sharing, reports UNB.
"Political parties have to finalise the list of their candidates within the scrutiny days and send these to the returning officers," said Chief Election Commissioner Dr ATM Shamsul Huda, turning down pleas for extending the time.
"The lists of candidates consecutively will have to be submitted to the returning officers," he told reporters replying to a question in the late afternoon at the EC secretariat before leaving his office.
Meanwhile, Scrutiny of nomination papers filed by a total of 2,460 candidates across the country for the December 29 polls began today and would complete today (Thursday).
Dr Huda, however, said if the alliances couldn't give the lists of their coalition candidates within this timeframe, they would have to submit those after completing seat-sharing negotiations among the allies.
