Find out permanent solution to current conflict: NHRC chief

February 08, 2015 00:00:00

Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Prof Mizanur Rahman has urged all concerned to find out a permanent solution to the current political conflict through a consensus on holding a free and fair election, reports UNB.

He, however, said no dialogue could be held with terrorists who are burning people to death.

"They (opposition parties) are challenging the monopoly of state power through carrying out terrorist acts in the name of

a movement. They are challenging the foundation of the state, which is tantamount to sedition and a criminal offence," said the NHRC boss at a seminar in the city.

The Federation of Bangladesh Human Right Organisations (FBHRO) organised the seminar.

"The state will have to play its due role in getting rid of this terrorism. The government is responsible for ensuring safety and security of its citizens," Mr Mizanur said.

Urging the government to ensure the basic rights of the citizens, he said it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that the common people do not face harassment in its attempt to ensure people's safety.
