Five BNP men on remand over Gopibagh clash

A Dhaka court placed on Monday five activists of BNP on a one-day remand each in a case lodged over January 26 clash with Awami League activists in the Tikatuli area of Gopibagh in the city, report agencies.

Those who were put on remand are Jamil Ahammed Tuhin, Billal Hossain, Sohel, Faruk and Akram Hossain Munna.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman passed the order as investigation officer and Wari thana sub-inspector Julfiqar Ali produced them before the court seeking a seven-day remand prayer.

Awami League leader and ward-39 election campaign committee member Maksud Ahmed filed the case with thana against 50 BNP leaders and activists over the clash.

A group of BNP activists locked in battle with their counterparts from Awami League as they were running campaign in front of Central Women's College in Tikatuli in the morning of January 26.

The clash that lasted for around 30 minutes left around 15 people, including a photojournalist of Somoy Television, injured.
