Foreign Minister (FM) Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has recalled with deep appreciation the invaluable contribution of the diplomats who had defected from Pakistan administration and expressed allegiance towards a sovereign Bangladesh during the glorious war of liberation in 1971, reports BSS.

The FM was addressing as chief guest a discussion meeting Friday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the city to commemorate the "First hoisting of Bangladesh National Flag" outside the Bangladesh territory at Kolkata mission on 18 April, 1971.

The minister said the diplomats had taken incalculable risk not only on their own life and career but also on the lives of their next of kin living in the war-torn Bangladesh at that time.

He added that it was time to take initiatives to preserve the authentic history of war of liberation fought on the diplomatic front in 1971.

The meeting began with the welcome address by Director General (EP Wing) Mohiuddin Ahmed.

Ambassador Waliur Rahman, Ambassador Kazi Nazrul Islam, and senior diplomats Anwar Hosain Chowdhury, Md Akbar Lutful Matin, Amjadul Huq, Mostafizur Rahman and Jolly Ahmed, daughter of late Ambassador M Hossain Ali, were, among others, present at the discussion meeting.
