Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim urged the global community to keep health at the centre of the next development goal framework, report agencies Thursday.

Mr Nasim made the appeal while briefing on post-2015 development agenda in Geneva.

World Health Organisation (WHO) organised the briefing on the sidelines of the ongoing world health assembly.

He said the stress should be given on non-communicable diseases, climate related health hazards, health problems of the migrant workers, universal health coverage and application of ICT in providing health services.

Director General of WHO Dr Margaret Chan praised Bangladesh's remarkable success in medicare services through community clinics.

Talking to BSS over the phone from Geneva, Mohammad Nasim said the WHO DG appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her initiatives to provide healthcare service to common people through the community clinics.

He said Chan also appreciated the Bangladesh government for its effective steps to set up community health clinics across the country for taking healthcare services to the doorsteps of people.

The health minister discussed various issues with the WHO DG at her office in Geneva and said Dr Margaret lauded government's success in EPI programmes.

The minister expressed his 'deep concern over the shortage of essential medicines, rational uses of drugs, antibiotic resistance, mental and neuro-developmental disorders such as autism.

The final decision on the next set of development goals will be taken in September next year.

Nasim highlighted Bangladesh's success stories in achieving MDG 4 and 5 which were aimed at reducing child and mothers' deaths.

He also put forward some ideas for inclusion in the post- 2015 development framework.

He, however, said Bangladesh had not finished its journey in MDG 4 and 5.

"But, we are happy to say that we are, at least, on track for achieving MDGs. We achieved MDG 4 and are close to MDG 5 target," he said.

He also highlighted Bangladesh's climate vulnerability, despite the fact that the country was one of the least contributors of global warming, according to his ministry.
