Food grains reserve to double in next two months: Razzaque

Food grains reserve in the country will double in next two months as compared to the same period of last year, said Food and Disaster Management Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque Tuesday, reports UNB. "The food grains reserve will total around 1.8-1.9 million tonnes in next two months, double than that of last year," he said at a press briefing at the Food Ministry. Dr Razzaque informed that at present, some 8.34 tonnes of food grains are stored in the government warehouses. He said the government has already signed agreements to import 0.2 million tonnes of rice from Thailand and another 0.1 million tonnes from Vietnam. A Letter of Credit (LC) has also been opened to import another 0.6 million tonnes of food grains. The Food Minister said that in case of any natural disasters, there will be no food crisis in the country. "We've adequate food reserve." He expressed the hope that the price of coarse rice will come to a tolerable level after the current boro season.
