Food and fresh water supply to the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office for her party leaders, office staff and security personnel remained disrupted for the fifth consecutive day Sunday due to reported obstruction by law enforcers, reports UNB.
Plainclothes police deployed in front of the office blocked a rickshaw as it arrived there with 30 packets of cooked food and bottled water around 2:15pm on the day as they have been doing it since Wednesday night.
Being instructed by the policeman to turn back immediately, the rickshaw-puller left the area keeping the food and water on the footpath in front of the office.
Asked the reason for blocking the food supply to the Khaleda's office, the policeman suggested reporters to talk to his senior official.
At one stage, BNP senior vice chairman Selima Rahman appeared in front of the main gate of the office and asked the law enforcers who are dictating them to stop food supply to the office. "Is it a jail? Even, food is served in jails and the condemned criminals also get food."
Venting her anger, the BNP leader said, "The state minister for home and the IGP are saying there has been no obstruction to food supply, but policemen are blocking our food supply everyday. I want to know at whose behest the police are doing this!"
She said most people inside the office have remained almost unfed due to police obstruction on food supply.
Selima said they have been taking dry food since Wednesday night as it is not possible to cook inside the office for so many people.
The law enforcers on Wednesday night suddenly stopped the supply of food and fresh water to Khaleda's office by turning away a van carrying cooked food and bottled water.
The law forcers, however, are not resisting the relatives of Khaleda from supplying cooked food for her.
Selima Rahman said the BNP chief is not showing interest in taking anything as food supply for all others staying inside the office has been stopped by the law enforcers. "We're convincing her to take juice and fruits. She's not taking food showing her sympathy to the uneaten party leaders, office staff and others."
Selima, who along with Mohila Dal general secretary Shirin Sultana has been staying with the BNP chief in her office since January 3, also alleged that the government is spreading lies over food supply to the BNP chief's Gulshan office.
