Four BTCL officials get bail in graft case

A Dhaka court has granted bail to four officials of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) in a corruption case, reports bdnews24.com.
Dhaka's senior special judge Mohammad Zahurul Haque passed the order Monday when the BTCL officials surrendered before the court and made bail appeals.
The four are former divisional engineer of transportation section Mostafa Hanif Chowdhury, divisional engineer Fakhrul Haider Chowdhury, deputy assistant engineer Shajahan Mia and transport inspector Mohammad Faruk.
Assistant director of Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) SM Shahidur Rahman filed the case against the BTCL officials on Dec 21, 2008, at the fag end of the emergency regime that had kicked up the dust through a massive anti-graft crackdown following the 111, 2007 changeover in the country's political scenario.
On Aug 26 last year, the accused surrendered to the High Court seeking anticipatory bail, but the court granted them bail till submission of police reports of the cases.
Meantime, the ACC pressed charges against the accused on Oct 4 and 21 last year showing 23 people as prosecution witnesses in each case.
