Four more witnesses testify in graft case against Benazir-

Four new witnesses has testified in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, reports BSS.

The four witnesses are Md Sohel Miah, Md Riajul Islam, Asef Ainan Bokhsh and Sirajul Haque.

The four appeared before Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 on Wednesday and after examining the witnesses, Judge Abdullah Al Mamun adjourned the hearing until July 1. A total of eight prosecution witnesses out of 28 testified in the case so far.

According to the case documents, when the ACC directed submission of a wealth statement, Benazir Ahmed submitted his asset declaration through his lawyer on August 27, 2024.

In the statement, he disclosed immovable assets worth Tk 64.5 million and movable assets worth Tk 57.4 million. However, during the ACC investigation, it was found that he owned immovable assets worth Tk 75.2 million.

The commission alleged that he concealed immovable assets worth Tk 18.5 million.

In addition, the ACC found movable assets worth Tk 81.5 million in his name, which is Tk 24 million higher than the declared amount.

According to the ACC calculation, Benazir Ahmed acquired unexplained wealth amounting to Tk 110.4 million.
