BNP alleged on Sunday that the government has launched a fresh drive to arrest opposition leaders and activists as it got scared by the party's threat of a movement after Eid, reports UNB.

"The ruling party has become unnerved hearing our announcement of waging a movement after Eid. The government has started repressing opposition men in the holy month of Ramadan as the fear of its fall is haunting them," said party's joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Addressing a press briefing at BNP's Nayapaltan central office, he also alleged that the law enforcers are raiding the houses of opposition leaders and activists and harassing them.

"Our several thousand leaders and activists have left their homes due to police harassment and ruling party's repression. Police have indulged in arrest trade before the Eid," the BNP leader claimed.

Referring to the arrest of some leaders of BNP and its associate bodies at different parts of the country, he said police are arresting their party men every day so that they can't launch the movement after the Eid.

"The government has got desperate like a wild horse. The ministers are provoking us in many ways. They're even threatening to remove the BNP chairperson from earth," Rizvi said.

He also accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of letting loose her party cadres and godfathers to oppress their opponents.

Rizvi was also critical of Jatiya Party chairman for his remark in a newspaper article that Ziaur Rahman had come to power wading through blood branding HM Ershad as a fraud and a blatant liar.

"Ershad in his write-up has resorted to brazen falsehood over history… Through it, he has clearly exposed that a shameless fraud doesn't have any taste, principles, personality, and minimum commitment," he told the press briefing,
