Prime Minister's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi said Tuesday the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord will fully be implemented by this year, reports UNB.
Dr Gowher said this while addressing a seminar on "Realisation of Indigenous People's Rights and Ratification of ILO Convention" jointly organised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples' Forum (BIPF) at CIRDAP auditorium in the city on the day.
NHRC chairman Dr Mizanur Rahman presided over the seminar while BIPF general secretary Sanjeeb Drong presented the keynote paper.
"There's nothing to be frustrated. The CHT Peace Accord will be implemented this year," he said.
The government signed the CHT Peace Accord with Parbatiya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS) in 1997.
Speaking as a special guest, Fazle Hossain Badshah, MP said the more the implementation of the CHT Peace Accord is delayed, the more its effectiveness will get reduced.
He said the CHT Peace Accord has not been implemented due to political wrangling, though the government is sincere about it. "The CHT Peace Accord must be implemented. It's the responsibility of the government to implement it," Badsha said.
