The Ganajagaran Mancha has demanded hanging of BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury without much delay, reports bdnews24.com.

The Supreme Court upheld on Wednesday the death penalty for Chowdhury by the International Crimes Tribunal.

Chowdhury has often been described as the 'terror of Chittagong' during the 1971 Liberation War.

The four-member appeals bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha delivered the final verdict.

"This verdict has foiled all conspiracy. It has been proved once again that the Bangladesh people can confront any evil force," Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar said after the verdict.

"Two of the war crimes verdicts have been already implemented. We want to see the execution of Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid and SQ Chowdhury as soon as possible," he said.

Activists of the Mancha gathered at Shahbagh from 8:00 am, like on the days when other war crimes verdicts were announced.

Elated with the verdict, they started raising slogans supporting the verdict.

They, however, did not bring out a procession on Wednesday as they had after earlier verdicts.

Mancha spokesperson Sarkar said they would not be bringing out their customary procession celebrating the verdict out of 'respect for the law'.

BSS adds: Expressing deep satisfaction over the upholding of death sentence of Salaudding Quader Chowdhury by the Appellate Division, Prafullah Rangan Singh, son of Nutan Chandra Singh, demanded on Wednesday quick execution of the death penalty.

In an immediate reaction, Prafullah said: "I am extremely happy over the judgment . . . now I want to see quick execution of the sentence."

Prafullah's father Nutan Chandra was shot dead by Salauddin Quader Chowd-hury during the War of Liberation at the Kundeshwary Bhaban in Raujan.
