GAZIPUR, May 9 (UNB): BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy was released from jail on bail on Friday.

The BNP leader walked out of Kashimpur jail around 11:30 am after his release order reached the prison.

A good number of BNP leaders and activists received Gayeshwar at the jail gate with bouquets.

The High Court (HC) granted on Wednesday interim bail for six months toGayeshwar Chandra Roy in a case filed in connection with the killing of an Islami Chhatra Shibir activist on December 29, 2013.

On April 20, a Dhaka court sent two BNP leaders - Gayeshwar andAmanullah Aman - to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in the case.

The court, however, had granted bail to BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas in the same case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Harun-ur-Rashid passed the orders when the three BNP leaders surrendered before the court on completion of their HC bail.
