Gazette of President's resignation published

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad will discharge the duties of the President until a new President is elected, according to the Article 54 of the Constitution.

The provision came effective following the resignation of President Mohammed Sahabuddin from office on July 24, reports BSS.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard on Saturday.

The gazette, signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr Nasimul Gani stated that the order would be implemented immediately in accordance with the Constitution.

The Cabinet Division's website has also published the gazette confirming acceptance of the resignation letter of outgoing President Mohammed Sahabuddin and stating that Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad will discharge the responsibilities of the President as the new head of state.
