Observing that democracy is set to slip into a deep hole in the country, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia urged all Wednesday to get united to foil the plots of evil forces of democracy killers, reports UNB.
"We all must get united to thwart conspiracies by the evil forces of democracy annihilators," she said in a message issued on the occasion of Shaheed Dr Milon Day commemorating his 24th death anniversary.
On November 27, 1990, the cadres of then autocratic ruler HM Ershad gunned down Dr Milon, the then joint secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), on Dhaka University (DU) campus.
Different socio-political and cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
Khaleda Zia alleged that the one-party rule, reestablished by killing democracy through the Januaray-5 'voter-less' election, has also blocked the path of progress of multiparty democracy.
Mentioning that Dr Milon embraced martyrdom to save democracy from the shackle of autocratic rule, she said his sacrifice will be successful if democracy gets a strong footing.
"He (Milon) is our source of inspiration in the struggle and movement against all authoritarian and autocratic and anti-democracy forces."
Khaleda Zia, also a former Prime Minister, prayed for salvation of the departed soul of Milon.
