Go to people for power, not to foreign friends

Awami League joint general secretary Mahub-ul-Alam called on Friday upon BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to go to mass people to get support for assuming power rather than approaching the foreign friends, reports BSS.

"Go to mass people who can help you to get back state power .  . . but don't approach your foreign friends," he said adding , "You are killing and wounding many innocent people through petrol bombs and arson attacks but these acts ultimately give you no benefit."

Speaking at a meeting of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the city's Bangabandhu Avenue, he also urged BNP and its allies to shun politics of destruction and withdraw the ongoing blockade and hartal in the greater interest of the country and democracy.

BCL, student wing of the ruling Awami League (AL), organised the preparatory meeting for the upcoming grand rally at Shurawardy Udyan on the occasion of the Historic 7 March with BCL President M Badiuzzaman Sohag in the chair.

"You have enough time to seek apology to the nation for your (BNP) misdeeds and take responsibilities for the killing of innocent people in the name of anti-government movement," said Hanif.

Referring to ongoing transport blockade and hartal, the senior AL leader observed that mass people, in fact, rejected the movement of BNP and their allies.

"Deep frustration loomed large in BNP leaders as their blockade and hartal got a lukewarm response. Even many BNP leaders are raising question on the acceptability of hartal and blockade right now," Hanif observed.

AL organising secretaries BM Mozzammel Haque, Abu Syeed Al-Mahmud Swapon and Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury, BCL vice-president Joydeb Nandi and office secretary Sheikh Rasel, among others, spoke on the occasion
