Dr Kamal Hossain's Gono Forum Tuesday accused the caretaker government of dashing people's hope to the ground through its procrastination, failure in resolving crises in public life and stepping into the quicksand of "compromise under a political deal", reports UNB.
A resolution adopted at its standing-committee meeting chaired by Dr Kamal Hossain, said.
Held at Dr Kamal's Bailey Road residence, the meeting was attended by Gono Forum leaders Pankaj Bhattacharya, Adv Subrata Chowdhury, Commander (retd) Abdur Rouf, former Whip Abdur Rouf, Mafizul Islam Khan Kamal, Mostafa Mohsin Montu and Kamal Haider.
Accused facing charges of corruption and abuse of power were being released "en mass" on bail, putting the judiciary and the legal process "into question".
"Consequently, the anti-graft drive launched in the spirit of 1/11 had turned into a campaign of appeasing corruption in most cases," the strongly worded resolution says, adding this is "tantamount to fraud upon the people".
The party alleged the government not only created the crisis in establishing credibility of the rule of law and the judiciary but also allowed "champions of corruption and criminality" to receive heroic ovation. "This situation has created doubts in the public mind about the caretaker government."
It rejected as unacceptable the proposal mooted by Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur for reaching understanding between ex-premiers Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina in the interest of the general election.
"It is not possible to hold a fair election and establish healthy democracy by making compromise with the corrupt," said the Gono Forum.
