CHATTOGRAM, April 19 (BSS): Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam on Sunday expressed his goal to boost cargo transportation by rail from Chattogram Port.
Currently, only 4 per cent of cargo is transported by rail, but the plan is to increase this to 16 to 18 per cent. Despite the lack of necessary locomotives, the capacity has already been somewhat increased.
Sheikh Rabiul Alam made these remarks during a meeting with representatives of government and private entities associated with the port at the conference room of Chattogram Port .
He urged all parties involved to consider the broader interests and potential of Chattogram Port, rather than just their own positions. He emphasised the importance of looking at the state's interests and working together to solve various issues such as tariffs, labor wages, and customs activities.
After the meeting, the minister stated that detailed discussions on these issues would take place with relevant organisations in Dhaka, and necessary decisions would be made.
He highlighted the significant opportunities for international trade at Chattogram Port and stressed the need for increased coordination and flexibility to capitalise on these opportunities.
