Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the ministry has approved six projects on priority basis to develop the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), reports BSS.
"The Chittagong Hill Tracts will be developed tremendously within the next four years, as the government started development work for the area," he told journalists after an inter-ministerial meeting at his ministry conference room.
Chaired by the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, the meeting was joined, among other, by State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing, Road Transport and Bridges Secretary MAN Siddique, CHT Affairs Secretary Naba Bikram Kishore Tripura, Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) M Nazrul Islam, Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) M Jashim Uddin, chief engineer of Road Transport and Highways Divisions M Feroz Iqbal, administrators of the three CHT districts and officials of the ministry.
Quader said the priority projects including Ruma-Bogalake-Kewkaradang roads development, Mohalchhari-Sindukchhari-Zaliapara roads development, 34 PC girders bridges, 9 RCC bridges and 13 box culverts in Khagrachhari district, expansion of Keranirhat-Bandarbans national highway, development of bandarbans-Chimbuk road and Baroiar hat-Korer hat-Hiako-Ramgar land port link road construction.
