Govt attaching importance to protecting film industry: Barua

Industries Minister Dilip Barua Friday said the government has been attaching utmost importance on protecting the local film industry, reports BSS.
"Appropriate initiatives should be taken so that films of other countries can not replace our films in the local market," he said assuring that his ministry will extend all sorts of cooperation for production of creative and proper movies highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the country.
The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a roundtable discussion on the "57 years of our film industry: attainments and expectations" at the VIP Conference Room of the National Press Club in the city.
Bangladesh Film Journalists Association organised the roundtable discussion with its president Abdur Rahman in the chair. Eminent journalist and movie personality Ahmed Zaman Chowdhury presented the keynote paper on the topic.
Managing Director of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) Pijush Banerjee, director general of Bangladesh Film Archive Quamrunnahar, noted film director and lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar, celebrated actor Ilyas Kanchan, Bangladesh Film Photographers Organisation president Abdul Latif Bachchu, Bangladesh Film Directors Association president Mohammad Hannan, Bangladesh Film Projectors Association president KMR Manzur, Bangladesh Film Producers-Distributors Association vice-president Khorshed Alam Khosru and Bangladesh Film Actors Association general secretary Misha Saudagar were the discussants.
The Minister said, "The socio-economic scenario of a society is reflected in the films. The contemporary political and economic conditions are also highlighted through films". Terming the piracy of films as the main impediment for development of the local film industry, Dilip Barua said the piracy of films should be contained through concerted efforts of all.
The Minister also stressed on the need for joint financing of BFDC and private film producers for production of creative and good films in Bangladesh.
