Govt believes in free flow of information: Azad

Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad Saturday said that the present government believes in free flow of information, reports BSS.
The government has got passed the Rights to Information Act in the parliament, and the media is enjoying complete freedom at present, he said speaking as the chief guest at the first founding anniversary function of 'Shaptahik Patrika' at its Eskaton Garden office in the city.
Commerce Minister Faruk Khan and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister GM Quader attended the function as special guests. Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, MP, writer Syed Shamsul Haque, academic Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim, former caretaker government adviser Syed Manzur Elahi and Channel i Director Shykh Seraj, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, politicians, intellectuals, poets, litterateurs, journalists and eminent personalities from different sectors were present at the function.
The information minister said that since the media is enjoying freedom in the country, it should play a responsible role.
He called for establishing a non-communal Bangladesh on the basis of the spirit of Liberation War.
