Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said on Sunday that the government is now pursuing foreign countries' support after the election mired with controversy held on January 7.

Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the comment at a press briefing at the party's Naya Paltan central office in the capital.

"The government is now busy to get foreign countries' support by any means through ignoring the people's will," he said.

He also said that collecting greetings from foreign countries can never be an honour for the country.

"The 180 million people of Bangladesh didn't recognise this government's one-sided and farcical election. People didn't go the polling centres that proves that they (people) didn't give their support to the government," he said.

"It will be impossible to get legitimacy of the second BAKSAL government elected through a dummy election," Mr Rizvi said.

"People will never accept this election and this illegal government. They will oust this government through movement," he added.

"The dummy Awami League (AL) government has defeated Bangladesh while attempting to suppress BNP. There is none to hear people's voice," he maintained.

"The ordinary and limited-income group of people cannot decently maintain their families due to the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities," Mr Rizvi commented.
