BNP Secretray General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday alleged that the current government has divided the state system through politicisation, reports UNB.

"If you go to the court, you won't not get justice. If you go to law enforcers, you won't get security there as first you will be asked whether you belong to BNP or Awami League. If you are with BNP, then you won't get any cooperation. Rather, they will file a case against you," he said.

Speaking at a discussion meeting, he said three leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's Dhaka south city unit went to a police station to lodge a complaint as they came under attack while returning home at night, but they were implicated in a case.

"The government has divided the entire nation in the last 12/15 years. You won't find any such a place where there is no division based on political identity," Fakhrul said.

He bemoaned that the committees of mosques, schools, madrasas, colleges, universities and other institutions are divided in the country. "This division will never help any nation move forward. Nation can be taken forward through unity which was done by President Ziaur Rahman In 1975," the BNP leader said.

"I often say we're going through a bad time. They (govt) are ruining everything by indulging in corruption, misdeeds and lies," the BNP leader observed.

Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Foundation arranged the programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in memory of Gazi Mazharul Anwar, a member of BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council, who died on September 4.

Fakhrul said the political arena in Bangladesh has got spoiled while the political structure has collapsed for lack of a credible election and a truly representative parliament. "How can we get rid of it? That is the big question now."

He called upon people from all walks of life to come forward to protect the country from ruination and create a congenial and democratic atmosphere for the future generation so that they can live in peace.

Recalling the contributions of Gazi Mazharul Anwar to the country and its cultural arena, Fakhrul described him as a lighthouse. "He was like a star to us. "We're inspired by his songs, character and his works."

BNP standing committee member Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, chairman of the foundation, highlighted the colourful life and works of late Gazi Mazharul Anwar.
