State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said in the city Friday his ministry as well as the government has always been remained alert about al-Qaeda and other militant organisations, reports BSS.
"We are not ignoring the news item on al-Qaeda message already published in different media. We will conduct scrutiny about the objectivity and importance of the news. But, now everything is in our control," he said while addressing a discussion of Dhaka City unit of Bangladesh United Islami Party (BUIP) at Uttara.
Assuring the countrymen of security, he said, "Nothing to be worried about the alleged message of al-Qaeda leader Zawahri, as the law enforcement agencies have always been put on alert against all sorts of militancy".
On Thursday, in a 55-minute video posted online, Zawahri announced the formation of an Indian branch of his militant group, different media reported.
Al-Qaeda would spread Islamic rule and "raise the flag of jihad" in Bangladesh and other South Asian countries, Zawahri said.
About Faruqi killing, Mr Kamal said, "Three suspected have already been arrested in this connection. Probe into the matter is now going on and all responsible for the killing will surely be brought to justice."
Speaking as the chief guest, former home minister and Awami League Presidium Member Advocate Sahara Khatun said, "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a pious Muslim and he banned liquor and gambling in the country and allocated land for Biswa Ijtema on the bank of the river Turag at Tongi."
"We would have to work for the welfare of mankind in line with the holy Quran, the complete rule of life," she also said.
BIUP president Mawlana Md Ismail Hossain presided over the discussion. Among others, Director General of Islamic Foundation Shamim Md Afzal, Mawlana Ashiqul Islam Juktibadi, Greater Uttara Thana AL president, SM Tofazzal Hossain, organizing secretary Afsar Uddin Khan and Mahbubul Alam spoke.
After the discussion, BIUP formed new committees for Uttara Purba, Uttara Pashchim, and Turag thanas.
