Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said Thursday the government has formed a committee to investigate the irregularities in purchasing unnecessary medical equipment over the last couple of years.
He reiterated that the government is committed to eliminating all forms of irregularities in the health sector and sought cooperation from all concerned in this connection.
"We have already formed a health ministry committee headed by an additional secretary in this respect and action would be taken against those involved in such misdeeds after getting the committee report," the minister said while speaking at a function at Sagar-Runi auditorium at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) in the city.
National Eye Care and the ministry of health jointly organised the function for awarding media persons and organisations for their contribution to the health sector.
Referring to the buying of unnecessary equipment in the health sector, the minister said many unnecessary medical equipment and devices were purchased for the last several years spending a large amount of public fund. But packages of such equipment were not even opened.
"Action would be taken against those officials and employees who suggested such purchase and were involved in the buying process," he added.
