Govt for March 25 as Int'l Genocide Day: Mozammel

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said on Sunday the government is working to earn international recognition for observing March 25 as the 'International Genocide Day', reports BSS.
"A convention on genocide was held on December 9 in Geneva of Switzerland. And since then, that day is being observed as the International Genocide Day globally", he said.
The minister made the comments while addressing a discussion and a photo exhibition, organised by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs in front of Shikha Chirantan in the city's Suhrawardy Udyan marking the Genocide Day.
Mozammel said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had constructed a children's park at the place where Bangabandhu stood to deliver the historic March 7 speech to destroy the memorial site.
The minister said the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered the March 7 speech from this historic Suhrawardy Udyan and the Pakistani occupation forces surrendered there.
He said former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi announced the withdrawal of Indian troops from Bangladesh from this historic place.
