Govt monitoring movements of students, teachers: Quader

The government is closely monitoring the ongoing movements of the university teachers against a new pension scheme and the students against quota in government jobs respectively, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, report agencies.
Quader, also the road transports and bridges minister, made the remark while talking to reporters at his secretariat office in the city on Sunday.
He said, "We are observing closely. I believe the issues will be resolved. The issue for which the students are in movement is not a decision of the government; it is a court ruling. This is under court's jurisdiction."
"We should not talk on the issue. It is a matter of the court. So, we are monitoring the issue," he added.
Quader said he has been in touch with the teachers but couldn't specify when a meeting would be held.
In response to a question over the wealth statements of government employees, he said there should be no objection to submitting wealth statements. "Why objection? If I work honestly, what is the issue with disclosing assets?"
The AL general secretary said all plans will have to be implemented keeping in mind the economic condition.
"We have to be alert as the recurrence of Sri Lankan incident or mistakes cannot take place.
He said it needs to take steps to denounce or give punishments for bad deeds along with giving rewards for good deeds.
There were many talks about corruption, commission percentage, promotion and transfer.
Those practices have been stopped, especially in BRTA and Transport Division, he added.
Criticising a comment of BNP leaders on corruption, Quader said there were no corruption in mega projects. Rather the government has saved a lot in mega projects. About Tk 11billion has been saved in three bridges - Meghna, Gomati and Kanchpur, he said.
Besides, he said, Tk 18.35 billion has been saved in Padma Bridge.
