April 13, 2014 00:00:00

The government will not bow to BNP's demand to hold an early general election, Awami League leader Dr Hasan Mahmud said Sunday, reports UNB.

"There'll be no election because of Khaleda Zia's threat. The next general election will be held as per the country's constitution," said the ruling party's publicity and publication secretary.

Hasan was addressing a meeting organised by Bangabandhu Academy at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city.

Awami League is not afraid of any threat of BNP, he said.

The BNP, he said, has no ability to launch any movement.

He urged the BNP chairman Khaleda Zia to stop the distortion of history.

He said Khaleda should rather explain the role she and her husband Ziaur Rahman had played during the 1971 Liberation War as people have questions about them.
