Govt obstructing BNP\\\'s overhaul process: Nazrul

Accusing the government of obstructing the party' s activities and overhauling process, BNP on Tuesday urged the government to make it clear whether it will allow the opposition to do politics, reports UNB.

The party also alleged there has been a farce in the country in the name of democracy as the government has in fact enforced an undeclared one-party rule.

"Our party overhauling process has been going on. You all know most leaders who're supposed to be engaged in the party reorganising process have either already been arrested or are being arrested to obstruct our streamlining process. We protest it," said BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan.

Speaking at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office, he further said, "Our 20 leaders sat in a meeting Monday in Bhola to discuss our party overhauling activities, but police arrested all of them. We would like to clearly know from the government whether they will allow any others rather than the ruling party to do politics or not."

The BNP leader also alleged that their party standing committee member Tariqul Islam was also made an accused in a 'false and fabricated case in Jessore to harm the party.

Meanwhile: Criticising the Prime Minister for accusing BNP of having hands in the recent killing of two foreigners, BNP on Tuesday alleged that the government is out to divert people's attention to a different direction by blaming the opposition.

"The murders of the two foreigners are very unfortunate and shameful incidents for our country. We think the government should take immediate steps so that the assailants are arrested. But, the arrest of BNP leaders and blaming the party over the two murders are an effort to divert people's attention to a different direction," said BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan.

Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's remark that BNP-Jamaat nexus might have hands in the killing of the two foreigners, Nazrul said, "The way the Prime Minister accused our party and its leaders of the murders without any investigation, it seems the judiciary and probe are no longer necessary in the country to identify the accused."
