Govt running country leaning on terrorists

History without Ziaur Rahman will be incomplete: Gayeshwar

FE REPORT | March 30, 2024 00:00:00

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Friday that the present government was governing the country leaning on terrorists.

"The terrorist groups of the ruling party lawmakers are creating a fearsome anarchy in the country because people are not with them (AL). They (AL) don't need people's vote," he told the media while visiting injured joint convener of Natore district BNP Farhad Ali Dewan Shaheen who is undergoing treatment at BSMMU Super Specialised Hospital in the capital.

"The consequences will not be good for a government heavily dependent on terrorists," he warned, saying that the terrorists loyal to the member of parliament of Natore Shimul carried out attack on Farhad Ali Dewan Shaheen to kill him.

He added that Shaheen as former presidents of Natore district Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal played active role in the movement against the government.

And for this reason the ruling party leaders became enraged with him, he said.

Mr Rizvi further said that the government would not be able to save itself by resorting to oppression and suppression on the opponents.

Organising secretary of BNP Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu and its health affairs secretary Rafiqul Islam were present, among others.

Meanwhile, BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said on Friday that the ruling Awami League (AL) itself was the biggest product of India.

He made the comment at a discussion on 'The role of party founder Ziaur Rahman during the greatest War of Liberation and the present Bangladesh' organised by Antare Mom Shaheed Zia at Maulana Akram Kha Hall of the National Press Club.

"Today the biggest products of India are the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina (Prime Minister). And all could be achieved if they (AL) are boycotted," he said.

He said that if those products are boycotted then it would be possible for the nation to be freed.

He added, "AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that if India were not with them (AL), it would have not been possible for holding the dummy election on January 7, 2024."

"If Ziaur Rahman was the announcer of the country's independence, then who was the writer (proclamation of country's independence)? Where is that paper? Our (BNP) efforts are not to establish Ziaur Rahman. Ziaur Rahman himself had taken a place in the heart of the nation by his own virtues, merits and personal performance," he continued.

He said, "Without Ziaur Rahman it would not be possible to write a complete history of Bangladesh. Today's history is not a complete one."

Dhali Amimul Islam Ripon, adviser to 'Antore Mom Shaheed Zia' presided over the event which was moderated by its general secretary Md Shah Alam.

BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, member of the party's executive committee Abu Naser Md Rahmatullah and senior joint convener of Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal Kazi Moniruzzaman Monir were present, among others, at the discussion.
