Govt seeking reason to annihilate BNP

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan said on Wednesday that the Awami League government was seeking a reason to annihilate their party.
"We (BNP) are on the movement for establishing people's rights," he said while visiting the residence of just released Jubo Dal leader SM Jahangir at his Uttara residence in the capital.
"One-party rule is now prevailing in the country. The country is moving towards a situation like that in North Korea," he continued.
"BNP believes peaceful movement. People have rejected the ruling Awami League through silent movement. The government would not be able to deceive the people by walking on the wrong track," he maintained.
"BNP is not frustrated. The government would be removed through a democratic movement. The Awami League is not giving nominations to their party candidates in the upcoming Upazila elections sensing fear of drowning of the 'boat' symbol in the polls," he said.
"The government is seeking plea to annihilate BNP," he further said.
SM Jahangir alleged that BNP leaders in the prison were facing torture. He asserted that BNP leaders' morale remains high despite torture being inflicted on them by the ruling party.
