Govt suspends 12 municipal chairmen

The government has suspended 12 municipal chairmen against whom criminal cases are pending.
The chairmen were suspended as per Clause 136(1) of The Pourashava Ordinance, 1977 (Ordinance No. XXVI of 1977), according to a PID handout, reports UNB.
The suspended municipal chairmen are Faizul Farim Mayun of Moulvibazar, Sahabuddin Sabu of Laxmipur, GK Gaus of Habiganj, Hasmat Ali Sikder Chunnu of Gopalganj, Mohammad Jamilur Rahman Miron of Tangail, TRM Noor-e-Alam Helal of Sirajganj, Jane Alam Khoka of Sherpur, Bogra, Mohammad Jahangir Alam of Dupchachia, Bogra, Meer Mohi Uddin of Alamdanga, Chuadanga, Mohammad Shamim Kabir Helim of Shibganj, Chapai-nawabganj, Mohammad Saiful Haq Khan Chowdhury of Mirpur, Kushtia and Abdul Halim Gazi of Jhalakati.
Earlier, 19 chairmen and 11 members of different union parishads were suspen-ded/sacked or their posts declared vacant on charges of corruption, embezzlement of money, misuse of power, women repression, going abroad illegally and remaining absent from more than three meetings.
Of them, two chairmen were sacked, posts of two chairmen declared vacant and 15 chairmen suspended.
Posts of six members were declared vacant for remaining absent from three meetings and five other posts declared vacant for going abroad illegally.
