If needed, the relevant laws would be amended for this, he said speaking at the closing session of a training workshop for journalists on 'Right to Information Act 2009' at the Sagar-Runi auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the city.
Presided over by DRU President Shahed Chowdhury, the function was also addressed by Chief Information Commissioner Mohammad Faruque, Information Commissioner Nepal Chandra Sarkar, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and DRU Training and Research Secretary M Sajjad Hossain.
The minister said it is natural that the journalists would criticise the government and the politicians. But that should be based on facts, he added.
The government will take the responsibility, if security of any journalist is endangered because of revealing the truth, he said, adding that the government is even ready to enact a new law in this regard.
The minister urged the journalists to come up with specific recommendations of amendment, if they feel that they are being harassed through any law.
