Govt to ensure 'transparency, accountability' at all levels

July 27, 2007 00:00:00

The main principle of the present caretaker government is to ensure transparency and accountability at all levels of the administration.
Adviser for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and Information Mainul Hosein made the observation while speaking as the chief guest at a conference of the district registrars organised by the Department of Registration at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in the city Thursday, reports BSS.
Law Secretary Kazi Habibul Awal was also present on the occasion with Inspector General of Registration Majdar Hossain in the chair. "Image of the country depends on a government that runs through discipline. The present caretaker government, which has taken over power amidst a difficult reality, is to manage crisis", the law adviser said.
The adviser urged the district registrars for performing their duties with honesty, efficiency and sincerity to further brighten the image of the department as well as the government.
Mainul said the present caretaker government had taken a strong stance against corruption and, that was why, the offices of registrars must be freed from such vices. A chance, he said, had now come to do a good job to uphold the image of this department.
"The government is also actively contemplating upgradation of the Department of Registration to the Registration Directorate, construction of multi-storied buildings for it and modernising all its activities", he added.
The law secretary urged the district registrars to work with more sincerity and honesty to ensure better service for the people.
