Govt to hand over responsibility of rural roads to RHD

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said Sunday the government has planned to hand over some responsibility of constructing rural roads to the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) to ensure the quality of such infrastructures.
"Since the construction works on rural roads under the Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) are not up to the mark, we are planning to hand over the responsibility of building such rural Roads to the RHD," the Planning Minister said this while exchanging views with the members of the Development Journalists' Forum of Bangladesh (DJFB) at an Iftar Party at his ministry in the city Sunday.
Mr Kamal, however, said the government has also planned to utilise more than US$15 billion worth of foreign assistance in the pipeline. "We have taken necessary steps so that the foreign aid in the pipeline could be utilised", he said.
He also informed the DJFB members that the government was firm to attain a 7.0 per cent GDP (gross domestic product) growth in the current fiscal year (2014-15).
Senior officials of the Planning Commissions and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) were also present on the occasion.
