Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury Thursday said the government was working for improving the living standard of people and increasing production in the agriculture and industries sectors was a must for that, reports BSS.
The government is also giving priority to generation of electricity as increasing production without power is not possible, she said.
The minister was addressing as the chief guest a seminar on "Plans to Ensure Sustainable Poverty Alleviation: Monga-Special Perspective" in the auditorium of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) in the city.
Monga Mukta Bangladesh (MMB), a joint initiative of Bangladesh Unnayan Parishad (BUP) and Action Aid, organised the seminar with BUP Chairman Dr Quazi Kholiquazzaman Ahmad in the chair.
Country director of Action Aid Farah Kabir highlighted the perspective of the seminar. Haradhon Ganguly, chief coordinator of MMB, presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
Mentioning Awami League government's success in overcoming monga during 1996 to 2001, Motia Chowdhury said the administration this time would also be able to improve the situation.
