The government has taken up an initiative to make a law effective within two months to prevent sexual harassment and repression in all educational institutions across the country, reports UNB.
University Grants Commission (UGC) has started its work to formulate a law in this regard, said an Education Ministry press release Tuesday.
"The government is closely observing the situation arisen in Jahangirnagar University (JU) following the allegation of sexual harassment on female students. Such situation can badly tarnish the image of the educational institution alongside leaving a negative impact on the overall educational system," the release said.
Referring to public universities like JU, which run by own rules and regulations, the release said, "The government believed that it was possible to resolve such allegation administratively by the own rules of the respective university."
The government will soon sit with the JU syndicate members and UGC to exchange views and to make policy guidelines in this regard.
