Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Socialist Party of Bangladesh (SPB) demanded on Saturday punishment of those who were involved in the import of rotten wheat, reports UNB.
The two parties came up with the demand from a joint-rally organised in front of the National Press Club in the city.
Speaking at the programme, SPB general secretary Khalequzzaman said the government has imported 0.2 million tonnes of rotten wheat worth Tk 4.0 billion while the farmers of the country are not getting fair price for their wheat.
He urged the government to immediately arrest those who are involved in the rotten wheat scam as well as buying wheat from the local growers.
He also urged the government to provide interest- free loan to farmers who grow wheat.
CPB presidium member Laxmi Chakrabarty, its central committee member Ruhin Hossain Prince, and SPB leader Abdur Razzak were also present at the programme.
