Bangladesh welcomed the Dhaka-Kolkata test train run, saying it is a forward movement in bilateral relations, reports UNB.
"We welcome this event. We see it as a forward movement in our bilateral relations," Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury told reporters in the city Sunday.
Asked what Bangladesh will get from India for realising New Delhi's long-standing proposal on the train service in win-win diplomacy, Foreign Secretary Touhid Hossain said the introduction of the train service will be mutually beneficial for both the countries.
"It is a symbol of mutual understanding. It will increase people-to-people contact and improve relations in other areas," he said.
Asked about a report that India is suspending export of rice to Bangladesh as a measure against Dhaka stopping export of Hilsha fish for six months, Touhid said they have not received any information from the Indian government on this.
He, however, said the Commerce and the Fisheries Ministries are reviewing the situation following the government decision on suspending Hilsha exports to India.
