Govt's ministers mocking people already hit hard by price surge

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan said on Friday the government's ministers are mocking the country's people when they are plunged into trouble due to skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.
Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan made the remark while talking to journalists after paying tributes to the party's founder, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, by placing a wreath at his grave at Sher-e- Bangla Nagar in the capital.
Members of the newly-formed committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) accompanied him at that time. The JCD leaders then vowed to bring back democracy in the country and build a Bangladesh afresh.
"The economy of the country is now on the verge of collapse. This government even after clinging to power through continuing repression on our party leaders and activists would not be able to suppress the opposition's movement," he warned.
Dr Moyeen Khan said, "During the then Pakistan period there were 22 families (moneyed families). But now there are around 220 families in the country."
He said that their party chairperson is now seriously ill and she is out of fear though the government has still kept her detained.
Former president of Chhatra Dal and BNP's special secretary Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon, former president of Chhatra Dal and BNP's publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Aniee and newly-formed Chhatra Dal's President Rakibul Islam Rakib, senior vice-president Abu Afsan Mohammad Yayhi and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir were present, among others.
