Joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL) Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif Wednesday called upon his party leaders and workers to remain alert to thwart conspiracy of BNP, reports BSS.

"As all of their conspiracies failed, they (BNP) are hatching conspiracies again. That's why they have been utilising Tarique Rahman to distort history. Against the backdrop of their conspiracies, AL leaders and workers should remain alert," he said.

Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif made this call while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organised the discussion at the auditorium of Shilpakala Academy in the capital marking the fourth death anniversary of its founder-general secretary Badal Rahman. Prominent freedom fighter-cum-movie director and one of the forerunners of Bangladesh Film Society Badal Rahman breathed his last on June 11 in 2010.

President of Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote Advocate Tarana Halim, MP, chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by information and research affairs secretary of Awami League Advocate Afzal Hossain, vice-president of the Jote and celebrated actor Pijush Banerjee, vocalist Monoranjan Ghoshal and Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana.

Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said, "BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman is a half-educated person. He is not supposed to talk on history. The anti-liberation forces have been utilising him to distort country's glorious history."

In reply to the claim of some BNP leaders that their party is a party of freedom fighters, the AL leader said, "I would like to request BNP leaders if you really believe that yours is a party of freedom fighters then you should refrain Tarique Rahman from distorting history. There would not be any benefit in distorting history as people of the country know better the history of their war of independence."
